Combating waste, a social issue

Today, much of the food produced in France, Europe and the rest of the world is lost or wasted every year. In Europe, some 89 million tonnes of food are lost and thrown away every year, representing 20% of food production. This waste occurs at all stages: at the grower’s, where some fruit and vegetables are not picked (ugly fruit and vegetables, overproduction…), at the intermediary’s and during the transport phase, and sometimes even at the end customer’s.

The estimated costs amount to 143 billion euros, affecting not only producers, but also consumers and our environment, since resources (water, soil, energy) have been used to produce them. Today, it is essential to rethink our food system in order to minimize food losses and move towards more sustainable solutions.

The SISTERS project as part of the Horizon 2020 program

The Regioneo project is part of a larger project, the Sisters project project, funded by the European Union as part of the Horizon 2020 call for projects. The Sisters project brings together 18 European players involved in the fight against food waste, and aims to propose various innovations for a more sustainable approach to food production and distribution in Europe.

BM Services agency

Founded in 2012 and based in Lozère, BM Services is a team of 20 professionals spread across several skill clusters. Depending on the project, we call on the expertise of the different divisions to provide the necessary know-how. This cross-functional organization enables us to adapt to any type of digital development or communication issue. In 2021, BM Services joined the SISTERS project to develop an e-commerce solution for fruit and vegetable producers.
